Lord's Supper
This was the last event for this year for our college students group. We thought we should finish on a high note with them and to leave them prepared for the Christmas holiday. It was a profound touching time seeing over 100 young people reaching their hands and picking the bread and the wine declaring: "Thank you, Lord, for choosing me as the object of your love."
The setting was appropriate... low light, candles, sitting in circle around a table on which the bread and the wine was taking the central place... the wine was brought from Israel and the cups were made out of olive wood (brought fro Israel, too).
The message of the evening was basic:Deuteronomy 10: 15 shows us a God who chained himself to his people. This is the love that won't let go of the object of love. This kind of love is sure and doesn't depend on any conditions. God will not let you go. He has handcuffed himself to you in love. And He owns the only key. You need not win his love. You already have it. And sice you can't win it, you can't lose it, either.
Your goodness can't win God's love. Nor can your badness lose it. But you can resist it!
At the end of the communion we had the participants keep the cups as a remembrance of God's love for us.
Powerful and memorable! Another spiritual milestone in our lives.
