New Hope Publishing House attending GAUDEAMUS 2007!
What is GAUDEAMUS 2007!
It is 2007 edition (the 14th) of one of the two greatest secular book
fairs in Romania. With all what such a fair means: tens of thousands of
visitors (90,000 this year), lots of events, the big names in Romanian
publishing and culture, wide media coverage. All these made us,
Christian publishing houses which attended the fair - unfortunately
just a few of them - having sometimes the feelings David probably had
when faced Goliath! If all we had were just five stones for the
slingshot, what on the earth are we doing amongst so many giants?
Actually we had more than 30 (good Christian titles). So...
Why we were there?
We followed ours and yours Lord words: "You are the salt of the
earth...You are the light of the world... neither do men light a
candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives
light unto all that are in the house". So we hope that the several
hundred of books sold there, promotional materials distributed, are the
fulfilling of New Hope vision: to build, mobilize and win. It might not
be spectacular, but nor the salt, nor the light is. They just work
quietly, doing in time their job. So with the books. We hope that all
the Christians who bought books will be built by them, all the students
from theological evangelical schools in Bucuresti (the capital city of
Romania, where the fair was held) who found New Hope resources as
extremely helpful will be mobilized by them to win the lost for Christ.
And those who are not Christians but bought or just looked over New
Hope books to find there what they are missing and so to be won for
Christ. Many of those 90 000 saw the New Hope booth, and many of them
visited it looking over the books, reading from them and many of them
then bought.
What's next?
A lot of work, to publish new titles, reprint those who are off print
but still demanded, continuing the distribution and all efforts to make
them known all over the country, and preparations for the next big book
fair, BOOKFEST 2008, in next June. Can we go alone in this? Maybe, but
with no results. We need God on our side, or to put the things in a
proper perspective we have to be with our publishing on His side, so we
need your help in that: prayer, support, advices, and practical help.
