Resurrection Night – If the Objects Could Talk
After two years of pause we've resurrected our tradition. Every year at Easter, according to the Orthodox tradition, people are spending the midnight / morning at the church celebrating Jesus resurrection from the dead. We've done that with our youth. We've had there over 100 kids who were really touched by the powerful message of death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We were overwhelmed by:
- Their wonderful work in preparing and presenting the last week of Christ; they were so good; each day was brought to us using creative, powerful and personal meditations on the Word.
- The attentiveness of all of them; we were worried a bit that they'll not have the patience to listen to all that.
- The talent and gifts God has put in some of them. We've chosen 12 objects used during the passion and crucifixion of Jesus Christ and gave some of the kids the task to "become of them" and to write what have they thought during being used in the process of killing God's Son. The meditations were so powerful that we are thinking we can publish a small book with them.
At the end of the event we've made the invitation to come to the cross with their sins and nail them in the cross. It was a moving experience to see them coming, one by one, quietly, to the cross to be forgiven. There is hope! In a society where it seems like faith is either watering down or disappearing, to see so many young lives taking faith seriously it the most encouraging thing.
