The Capstone
On Easter Day, during the church service, in connection with my sermon, we've had a powerful illustration of the meaning of the cornerstone, Jesus Christ. Two artists from our church have done a happening: they've built right there in front of the people the gate mentioned in Psalm 118: 19-24. Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter and give thanks to the Lord. This is the gate of the Lord through which the righteous may enter. I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation. The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it."
The reaction of the church was amazing during the whole thing. You could here the flies flying. When they've taken out the support of the arch and the stones stayed put in that arch (not using any cement) the church just exploded in applauses (which, I remind you, it is very, very, very unusual). The sermon was piece of cake after the illustration.
Some people said afterwards "It was the best Easter I have ever experienced in all my life." (and they were not young people, so, they had quite some years of life)
